It’s finally summer! Nathan and I have arrived in Eastern WA for the summer and already have had a blast. I thought I would share some of our favorite summer savings tips!
Cheap Sunburn Treatment:
I am allergic to aloe vera, I know I know, it sounds strange, but I really am! When I get a sunburn, (like the doosey I got at our school field day on Monday,) I take whatever lotion I have on hand that I am not allergic to, put some on a small piece of tinfoil, and stick it in the freezer! After the lotion freezes, it is the perfect treatment for my sensitive, burned skin. It soothes, cools, doesn’t cause further irritation, and is super cheap!
Yummy Lemonade:
This is my dad’s recipe, and we love it. All you need is one cup of sugar, one cup lemon juice, as much ice as you choose, water, and a pitcher. To make it, all you do is poor the sugar and lemon juice in the pitcher, mix it a little, add the ice, and then fill the picther the rest of the way with water! It is amazingly good and very inexpensive to make.
Summer Fun:
We do not have kids. Our definition of summer fun is going to look different from a lot of the other frugal bloggers because we don’t have a whole clan to keep happy.
One of our most favorite things to do in the summer is to go play tennis with another couple. We just go to the local free court and just have a ball. (No pun intended!) We are terrible tennis players! But we laugh a lot. Usually we play girls against guys– we are very competitive!
We were very lucky our first summer as a married couple, we had the Seattle Seahawks practicing in our back yard! Actually, in the fields next to our apartments on campus at Eastern Washington University. Did you know that you can go watch trainging camps for free?? It’s amazing! All your favorite, (or not so favorite) players are right there! We got some really fun pictures and had a lot of fun going to watch the Seattle Seahawks training camp for free! By the way, I’m an Indianapolis Colts fan.

I’m allergic to aloe vera too and have to be super careful to read labels to make sure that it’s not an ingredient in lotions and creams. One of the things that I discovered works for me if I get sunburned is to smooth on a coating of whatever sunscreen I’m using. It helps to keep the burn from peeling.
And a tall, cold glass of lemonade is my favourite summer drink.

Thanks for that tip! I am a die hard Aveeno user, and I was thrilled to get some Aveeno sunscreen on sale at Walgreens for this coming summer! It’s nice knowing I don’t have to worry about being allergic to my sunscreen!
