Minimizing Monday!

I love to purge! Purging refreshes me like nothing else. Did you know that purging can also be frugal? Once you minimize, you become aware of what you already have and assess whether or not you need anything more. Purging also helps you utilize the space you have illiminating the need for a bigger home with more closets!

Today at HandPrintsOnTheWall.org, the challenge was to minimize your medicine cabinets. Yes, the dreaded cupboard of the unknown as it is known at my parent’s house. My mom would be horrified if I showed you a before picture, because it was so stinkin’ cluttered in there! I will be heading back to my own house in a week now, so I tackled hers today.

With two surgeries behind her and a lot of seasonal ailments, my mom’s medicines, supplements, and vitamins were plentiful. My dad also has prescriptions and vitamin supplements that take up their own space. In addition to medicine and what not, the cupboard also holds various cooking supplies and tea.

To tackle the problem, I first cleaned out all three levels of the cupboard. Then I wiped down the shelves and came up with a plan. The bottom shelf would hold the cooking supplies. For safety reasons, we would move all the medication to the middle shelf; out of easy access of little hands and arms. The top shelf, because it is rather high, would hold seasonal medications and teas along with my mother’s medical travel bag.

Here’s all the “goodies” I had to wade through…

The end product came out great. To minimize, I combined medications that my parents had double or triple of like Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen. I threw out the empty bottles, combined all the travel medicine into one bag, threw out empty prescription bottles, and combined all the spare tea bags into one box.

My parents were thrilled with the results of this minimizing project and I felt rejuvenated by the purging! Whats next?! Hmm…

Enjoy your purging and check out Minimizing Monday!
