30 Days of Nothing Challenge Update…

My husband and I decided to take the 30 days of nothing challenge and started the challenge on Saturday. Its not always easy to deny yourself certain privileges; I think its eye opening to realize the difference between  privileges and true needs. You can read more about the challenge HERE if you’re interested.

Here are some of the things we’ve done to live on less these past couple days:

* I walked home from work today to save gas and simplify Nate’s schedule. He was able to go straight to his classes after subbing instead of having to come get me. Of course I picked one of the only 90 degree days and wore dark pants and a light sweater! (It’s a two mile walk!)

*I am using as little electricity as possible tonight as Nate is in class. This gives me the perfect opportunity to test some of my ideas for our no electricity night this Wednesday! After 8 pm, we are going to unplug everything except for the fridge and the alarm clock! We are going to bed early and using candles for light if we need it. We have a flashlight too! I’ll let you know how this goes! I think it’ll be kind of fun. Only the kind of fun a true frugal nerd could enjoy, right?

* I line dried my laundry yesterday!! I’m pumped about this because it worked and the laundry truly does smell different! I fluffed the load in the drier for about 7 minutes to take some of the stiffness out. 7 minutes is much better than 45! Because of my limited space, I can only do 1 load at a time. I’m thinking that’s not such a bad thing. I think one load a week should be plenty!

* We talked about the foods we will eliminate once we go sugar free in October. I think this is going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I know it will increase my discipline in so many ways! I need that!

* I sold some craft stuff on craigslist and made $26! We’re going to use it for gas money this week.

That’s it so far! As the month goes on, I’ll let you know how things go and what other things we come up with to help us live on less and go without.
