Our frugal Halloween fun!

We got our Omaha ground steak burgers delivered today! (I still can’t believe I only paid $1.98 for those babies!) In the delivery package was dry ice! We thought, “How perfect is this for Halloween?” We stuck it in the sink with some water and had at it! We had gloves on of course!

This reminds me of the three witches scene in MacBeth!

It’s days like these I wish we had kids because it was a lot of fun!

Frugal Friday… how we saved buying cheese!

My hubbie and I are cheese lovers! One of our favorite snacks is cheese and crackers! In our area, the best cheese available is Tillamook cheese from Tillamook, OR. Its amazingly delicious! In an effort to cut back on our consumption of cheese and stretch our grocery budget, I switched to the store brand of cheese. It was $1 cheaper, so we saved there. But, it’s been 2 weeks, and we still have half a block of cheese! That’s amazing for us! We don’t like it as well, so we aren’t snacking on it all the time. (Saving calories and money!) A lot of the recipes I use on a regular basis call for cheese, so this way, we buy less cheese and keep ourselves from snackin’ too much!

Being Thankful… its the little things.

I just love it when little things happen that just brighten my day!

Last night, Nate and I went out to dinner using the last of our Ruby Tuesday gift cards. We normally tip on the debit card, but our waiter messed up the transaction and told us he didn’t want a tip! He said he couldn’t get back in as the transaction was closed and it would be a royal pain for him to get the tip to work, so he wanted us to come back again soon as a trade off.

We were cool with that! A totally free dinner (gift card made it free) including tip, I’ll take that please!

Also today, my husband had an interview for a part time teaching position at a “homeschool” school that he went to as a high school student. We’re excited about the possibility, but if it doesn’t work out, he’ll continue to sub. Just the fact that the school called him in for an interview was a blessing to us.

I was also blessed with a free lunch curtesy of the PTA this week at school– they spoil me. :-) Oh! And someone also donated three books to my classroom!

All in all, this week has been filled with little blessings that gently remind me how faithful God is. He really does take care of His children.

The biggest blessing? Getting to see my family this last weekend and celebrate my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary!

In what little ways have you been blessed this week?

“Consider the ravens: they neither sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than the birds!” Luke 12:24

Repair before you replace! Works for me wednesday…

I love my old Bible. I got is a graduation gift from high school several years ago. My Bible has been to Haiti. Its been to college. Its been used on missions trips, at church camp, and as I planned my wedding vows. I think its beautiful! But I’ll be honest, it is totally and completely falling apart!

So, I couldn’t bear to replace it; I love this Bible! So I got out my scotch tape and my glue gun.

Its not “perfect,” but its totally doable! I can pick up my Bible without the guts falling out all over the place. My husband really wanted to replace it for me, but I really wanted to keep my old one. That money can be used else where now.

Repairing before I replace works for me!

Want other tips? Check out Works For Me Wednesday at rocksinmydryer.typepad.com!

FYI, I’m not sure why my computer wants to not format my pictures. Oh well, you get the close up view!

Craft Tip Tuesday! A sweet fall gift…

I found this in my mailbox at work the other day from the PTA! How cute is this? I thought this would be such a great idea for craft tip Tuesday!

Supplies:

Apple

Caramel dip (You could do this without a package of caramel dip too!)

cellophane

raffia

twig of artificial berries

The ladies from PTA also attached a cute fall poem on a sweet little note!

This is such a fun pick-me-up and it is also quite frugal! I saw some berries at the Dollar Tree too!

Just as an FYI, it’s parent-teacher conferences this week, so I may be a little late in posting each day. :-)

Happy crafting!
