WFMW After Christmas Sales!!

For the past 5 Christmases, we have taken advantage of the sweet, sweet deals after Christmas. Our first Christmas together, we bought a new-to-us car on a serious discount! The next year, I got Christmas ornaments for friends for $.25 each that I gave as gifts the following year. The year after that, a beautiful coat from Macy’s 75% off! Last year, we found an amazing wool pea-coat for Nate at Target for $14 and a puffy vest that looks so good on him for $7! This year I’m gonna hafta say tops them all!! The car was a big deal, but we went into debt to get it– which I don’t recommend. This time, we paid cash!

We needed a dishwasher, badly. I fretted over how clean Molly’s bottles were getting and would get upset when Nathan forgot and put her bottles in the sink with all the nasty dishes (which sometimes had raw meat on them, thank you honey.) He tried, but the keeping the bottles separate thing stressed him out!

Nate went out just to see if there were any deals here in town at the two teeny tiny stores we have here. I was almost hoping he wouldn’t find anything. Decisions are easier when you don’t have to face choices, right?

Well, he found a Kenmore Elite double dishwasher original $1500 marked down to $599. That was about $100 more than we were hoping to spend, but it was an amazing deal. We decided we could squeeze the money from our budget if we worked at it and paid cash that day. My dad and Nate installed it after much challenge taking out the old mangy guy and reworking the plumbing to fit a modern appliance! PLUS, we get a small rebate from our utility department.

This picture is from when we were moving in, you can see the ancient old mustard colored, non-functioning dishwasher to the lower right. Gross.

Nice huh? Now if only I could replace that disgusting carpet!

Shopping after Christmas really works for me! If you haven’t tried it because you think the stores are going to be crazy, go a week after Christmas instead of the day after. There’s still good stuff and the stores are almost empty because everyone spent their money on Christmas and are broke. But if you plan ahead… you won’t be broke next year and can nail some sweet deals!
