The “Heart Warming” Results!
My hutch is officially decorated for Valentine’s Day! Its cute, but not too obvious and I didn’t spend a dime!
I shopped my house (as the nester would say) and pulled stuff from the kitchen, my keepsakes, my bathroom decor, and my craft supplies. I’m pretty pleased!
I worked on keeping it balanced visually and tried to include as much Valentine-ish colors as I could.
I used my grandma’s jewelry box and filled it with letters she wrote to me as a child. (I added some paper hearts later after I took this picture.)
I put in lots of pictures of Nate and I together. I filled the bowl with some balls I had in the bathroom and then tucked little paper hearts I made from my scrap pile.
I also made the heart that is hanging on the door of the cabinet from scraps just like I made the hearts I hung in Molly’s room. I used the backing from a paper pad to make it more substantial and just glued on some paper and buttons! I duct taped raffia to the back as a way to hang it– my ribbon supply is running low, so raffia it is!!
I also made little hearts and attached them to the candle sticks with glue dots. The hearts will come off easily and the glue dots won’t leave any residue. (Love those things.)
I wrote on the labels attached to my stacking tins, “hugs, kisses, and snuggles” I had fun with that!
I also used the ring box from Nathan proposed to me along with a small chocolates tin given to me by a friend back in high school, and a small vase of fake roses. Cute and fun.
I’m very excited to now have some of my great grandmother and great-great grandmother’s dishes! I only had one plate stand, so I stacked the other plates and elevated them slightly by placing on top of a candle base I had from a 3 wick candle.
In a house where almost nothing is finished, it is refreshing to have this spot of “pretties” that I can go look at when I feel like my house will never feel homey. I look at this spot and remember that what I have is a blessing! And it will all be pretty someday!
Happy decorating!
